Instead of a domestic flight south, you travel on the overnight sleeper train to Surat Thani, then reach the Khao Sok rainforest, one of the oldest evergreen forests on earth. There you stay in a floating raft house on Cheow Lan Lake and a riverside jungle lodge, and explore by longtail boat, canoe and quiet forest walk. Throughout, you stay in independent, locally owned places, travel with licensed local guides, and use no domestic flights. It is a real holiday that treads lightly, built around genuine nature, heritage and community.

Central Thailand is hot year round. The southern rainforest is at its best in the months straight after the rains, and river and lake conditions are calmest outside the heaviest monsoon weeks.
The itinerary was built by scoring each supplier against sustainability criteria and choosing the strongest. Its low carbon transport is the journey itself: bicycles, public river boats, trains and an overnight sleeper in place of a domestic flight. You stay in independent, locally owned places, travel with licensed local guides, and spend time in national parks with wildlife watched only from a respectful distance. We are also working to add recognised eco certification of our accommodation partners over time.
We only include wildlife experiences that are observation based, with no riding, shows or forced contact. Because we cannot yet verify an elephant venue that meets that standard, we have chosen to leave elephants out of this package rather than include an experience we could not stand behind.
You travel south on the overnight sleeper train to Surat Thani in a private berth, then by a short road transfer into Khao Sok. It replaces a domestic flight with a comfortable, much lower carbon journey, and is part of the experience.
Yes, and the berths are the fixed point of the whole trip. You travel in an air conditioned second class sleeper with bedding provided. We hold the berths the moment your dates are agreed, because Thai high season sells them out weeks ahead. The policy behind that is simple: no domestic flight, on any date. If a departure is genuinely full, that leg runs by right sized coach, and you hear it from us before you book.
The cycling is gentle and mostly flat, on quiet car free routes in Bang Krachao and around the Ayutthaya ruins. It suits most reasonably active travellers, and distances can be adjusted.
